I recently moved to Greenville, SC for a radio gig! So that means I need to stay put for at least a year. Working in this business can be exciting and the same time very expensive when it comes to moving soooo much! I've moved around in the past couple of years at least seven times. I have spent lots of money on buying furniture and decor to make my apartments feel like home. Even though I'm a thrifty gal, I always would splurge a bit on my big pieces (i.e. sofas, dining table, etc.). Well this time I am on a mission and challenge to completely decorate my 2 bedroom apartment on a $1000 budget! Ouch! This has to include towels, utensils, pictures, furniture, sheets, curtains, EVERYTHING. I am starting from scratch.
I know you must be wondering how in the heck will I accomplish this. Well darling I'm not a Budget Diva for nothing. First, my favorite site - www.craigslist.org. Through-out the day I check the furniture for the furniture sale section, then on my spare time flea markets, yard sales and thrift stores.
Now I'm not going to buy old junkie stuff. There is a true art in shopping at this types of places. Honey, you have to have a good eye, a vision and style.
It is always great to first get some inspirational looks to help your hunt. Get some magazines with decor that you like. Keep these pics of ideas in your handbag - that way you always have them in case you go shopping.
As for my sheets, utensils and towels - well I need that new so I will do ROSS, Old Pottery Time and Target.
My mattress! Ok if your family member or good friend doesn't hand you one down then you have to go NEW. Unknown people's mattresses are YUCKY! That's a NO NO! My fav spot to buy a great quality mattress for super cheap is OVERSTOCK.COM they deliver for $2.95 and you don't have to lift a finger.
This mission is to be continued. I will post pics of my progression in the greatest challenge in home decor on a budget!
